Nortrel 1/35 is effective because it prevents pregnancy in three ways. It creates a thin uterine wall so any fertilized eggs cannot latch on, it prevents ovulation, and it creates a thick cervical mucus to block sperm from reaching any eggs. There are two main hormones in the pills that make these processes possible: progestin and an estrogen. Women are encouraged to store their packets of Nortrel 1/35 in a cool, dry place where they can access them each day.

Women need a prescription from their doctors in order to use Nortrel 1/35. However, once you have that prescription, this medication should be easy to find. Nortrel 1/35 can be found in most pharmacies and typically costs less than $15 per pack. Some women prefer to order three packs at a time to have 90 days worth of birth control. Talk to your doctor before starting Nortrel 1/35 as they may have some concerns about the medication and your health. Tell them about any existing medical conditions you have or allergies so they can prevent an allergic reaction. Nortrel 1/35 is not meant for women who are already pregnant. Side effects of Nortrel 1/35 vary from patient to patient, so you may have more mild or severe reactions compared to others. If acne occurs longer than 3 months of use switching to a different birth control pill can help.

Nortrel 1/35 may be less effective if you do not follow the dosing instructions carefully. It is also less effective if you experience nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If this occurs, switch to backup birth control until the symptoms subside. Tell your doctor about other medications that you are on, as Nortrel 1/35 may cancel them out or cause unplanned side effects that otherwise wouldn't have occurred on a different birth control pill.
