BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS SYMPTOMS

YEAST INFECTION SYMPTOMS

Treatment options

Metronidazole (Generic Flagyl®)

Metronidazole is an antibiotic medication that is used to treat bacterial vaginosis. It is available as an oral tablet and a topical medication. Metronidazole works by killing the bacteria that causes bacterial vaginosis, effectively preventing its growth and treating the infection.

Fluconazole (Generic Diflucan®)

Fluconazole is used to treat fungal and yeast infections. Fluconazole works by killing the fungus or yeast that causes an infection, effectively preventing its growth and treating the infection.

Clindamycin Cream

Clindamycin cream is a topical antibiotic medication that is used to treat bacterial vaginosis. Clindamycin cream works by stopping or slowing the bacteria that causes bacterial vaginosis, effectively preventing its growth and treating the infection.

Affordable, regardless of coverage

After evaluating your symptoms and health history, a Nurx Medical provider will prescribe an antibiotic or antifungal medication to treat your infection, if medically appropriate. The medications we prescribe are:

Metronidazole (Flagyl®)
Clindamycin
Fluconazole (Diflucan®)

  • Please note: The cost of your vaginitis treatment through Nurx is not covered by insurance. You will pay for the medication when you pick it up at your local pharmacy, and the price will depend on the pharmacy and whether you pay with insurance or out-of-pocket.

*Birth control consultation code must be used within 6 months of receipt.

  • How does vaginitis treatment from Nurx work?

    1. Request your prescription. Complete an online health consultation to share important information about your symptoms, health history, and any medications you take. If you are an existing Nurx patient, you will log into your account to submit your request.

    2. Our medical providers review. A licensed medical provider will review your health information and prescribe medication, if medically appropriate.

    3. Pick up at your local pharmacy. Your Nurx medical provider will send the prescription to a local pharmacy of your choice for pickup. You will pay for the medication at the pharmacy, either with insurance or out-of-pocket. If you have any questions about the price of the medication or copay, please contact the pharmacy. You’ll have on-demand access to message your Nurx medical provider with any questions for a full week.

  • How much does vaginitis treatment through Nurx cost?

    Your online consultation with a Nurx medical provider costs $65, which you pay when you submit your request for care. This is not covered by insurance. The price of your medical consultation covers a medical provider licensed in your state evaluating your symptoms and health history and writing a prescription (if medically appropriate). It also includes one week of unlimited messaging with a medical provider about your vaginitis symptoms and treatment. One week of unlimited messaging access starts once you submit your treatment request.

    If medication is prescribed, your Nurx medical provider will send the prescription to a pharmacy of your choice for pickup. You will pay for the medication at the pharmacy and the price will depend on the pharmacy and whether you pay with insurance or out-of-pocket.

  • What medication does Nurx prescribe for vaginitis?

    Nurx prescribes metronidazole gel and pills (generic Flagyl®) as well as clindamycin cream for bacterial vaginosis and Fluconazole (generic Diflucan®) for yeast infections.

  • Who can use vaginitis treatment from Nurx?

    We are able to offer vaginitis treatment to patients who are diagnosed with a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis by a Nurx medical provider. If you believe you may have vaginitis, request treatment by completing a health evaluation.

    While metronidazole, clindamycin, and fluconazole are generally considered safe medications, they may not be a good fit for certain individuals. Please inform your medical provider if you have had an allergic reaction to metronidazole, clindamycin, fluconazole or other antibiotic or antifungal medications in the past, or have heart disease, kidney, or liver problems.

    Additionally, we do not recommend or prescribe Fluconazole to those who are currently pregnant. If you are experiencing a yeast infection during pregnancy, we recommend over-the-counter products to help treat and alleviate symptoms.

  • What's the difference between bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections?

    Bacterial vaginosis is a bacterial infection that is treated with antibiotics. It can cause symptoms including thin gray, green, or white vaginal discharge; a strong unusual odor (especially after sex or menstruation); and burning during urination.

    A yeast infection is a fungal infection that is treated with antifungal medication. It can cause symptoms including thick, white vaginal discharge; itching, irritation, and soreness of the vulva; pain or discomfort during sex or urination; and redness and swelling of the vulva.
