Migraines are common in children. One of 10 children under age 15 suffer from migraines, and up to one-third of adolescents between ages 15 and 19 years suffer from migraines. Around half of people who will eventually suffer from migraines get their first migraine before age 12. Kids with migraines miss school twice as often as kids who don’t get migraines. Along with the headache, children often also suffer from associated symptoms like dizziness, disturbed sleep, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, anxiety and depression. Stress is an important factor for triggering headaches. Children who are abused or neglected are twice as likely to develop migraines as an adult.
