What is sertraline?

Sertraline (brand name Zoloft) is an antidepressant used to treat depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). It may also be used in combination with other medications to treat premature ejaculation. This medication comes in tablet form, capsule, and oral solution.
How does sertraline work?

Seratraline belongs to a class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). SSRIs increase levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood. They are used to treat depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder, and many other conditions.
What are the side effects of sertraline?

Side effects of sertraline may include an upset stomach or nausea, fatigue, dry mouth, heartburn, and dizziness and sometimes weight gain or decreased libido. You may also experience sleep problems (insomnia), strange dreams or nightmares. If you experience any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor about possible changes to your medication dose.
How do I take sertraline?

The recommended dose of sertraline for anxiety disorders in adults is 50-200mg/day. A lower dose of 25-50mg/day may be sufficient for many patients, but your doctor will decide on an individual basis.
Can I take sertraline with other medications?

As with all medications, it’s vital to check that there are no potential drug interactions between your prescription and any supplements or other prescriptions you’re taking. Always talk to your doctor before starting, stopping, or changing dosing on any medication.
